Cesenatico and the Leonardesque Porto Canale
An ancient fishing village, today the soul of city life is still along the Porto Canale of Cesenatico designed by Leonardo da Vinci and built in early 1300. On the two sides of the canal port are restaurants offering typical dishes of the best seafaring tradition and artistic handicraft shops.
Every Christmas, the port channel is coloured with fishing boats and characters of the maritime and farming tradition in the suggestive Presepe della Marineria di Cesenatico, the traditional Christmas Crib.
A unique setting offered by boats docking at the canal port and the history of ancient seas like floating museum, Museo galleggiante della Marineria, that unites models of traditional restored boats.
Together with Zadina, Valverde and Villamarina, Cesenatico covers 7 Km of beaches. The big dock, the sports facilities, the modern hotel in Cesenatico make this seaside resort the ideal place for families with children who want to spend sea holidays in total relaxation and tranquillity.
Cesenatico is also the venue of the famous Nove Colli: there are many cycling routes that go through or along the seaside resort, an ideal place to stop and discover open-air museums like Piazza delle Conserve that preserves ancient iceboxes where once the inhabitants kept fish and food in general.
